High-school students from impoverished backgrounds, can earn financial aid in the form of scholarships.
This covers four years of computer science, engineering courses, or any other computer-related course of study through the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship.
The Amazon Future Engineer scholarship program provides assistance to seniors who have completed an advanced placement in a computer science course and intend to continue their education at an accredited four-year college or university.
A paid programming internship at Amazon is also included in the award. This scholarship and internship program selects 100 students each year.
Every year, applications start in November, with the final grantees announced in May of the following year.

The honorees for 2022 hailed from more than 30 states and territories, including Puerto Rico and, for the first time, an American military installation in Europe.
More than 70% of scholarship winners identify as Black, Latinx, or Native American, and 50% identify as female, all of which are underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

Eligibility Criteria for Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship
To be eligible for the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- You must be a high school senior in the United States who has completed or is presently enrolled in a computer science course. Note: dual enrollment courses do not apply.
- You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale ( or it’s equivalent).
- You must be work eligible in the United States i.e you must be a permanent resident, a citizen or allowed to work in the country.
- You must be planning to obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or any other computer science-related course of study.
- You must demonstrate your financial need.
Application Requirements for the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship
In the application process, students are to submit the following documents for evaluation:
- Reference letter
This recommendation must be submitted by a teacher, preferably a computer science teacher.
- Transcript of Grades
Transcripts should be from schools you have attended and/or are currently attending. Documents should display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and the term when each course was taken.
- Most Recently Filed 1040
Include a copy of the first two pages of your household’s most recently filed IRS 1040 form(s) used for the Financial Information Page. If you are being claimed as a dependent on another person’s IRS 1040 tax return, you must submit the first two pages of that particular tax return with the application. Note: Please black out any sensitive data including Social Security Numbers before uploading.

Awards to be won
Selected awardees will be contacted and rewarded with $40,000 each over a four year period i.e $10,000 annually.
Renewal of the annual reward is contingent on the applicant continuing at a four-year college or university, and maintaining a standard cumulative GPA of 3.0.
A paid summer internship after freshman year at Amazon is also awarded to every recipient.
